Shirts, Small Works, and a New Studio

A few weeks ago, Palomacy’s director, Elizabeth Young, posed a friendly challenge: I know you’re still super busy, but any chance you could pop off a new Palomacy T-shirt design? My answers were yes (still super busy) and yes (I’ll try).

I’d never designed a T-shirt before, but I had this one in mind for a long time. The graphic was an exercise in negative space called “The Kiss,” featuring married boys Pomelo and Puffles. I love how the bold graphic transferred to the shirt.

When thinking about a second design, I wondered which of my “characters” would want a T-shirt of their own. The choice was obvious.

Both of these shirts are now available (in many colors) through Palomacy’s TeePublic shop. For the next two days, they’re 30% off, selling for $17 each.

I dropped off two 6 x 6 pigeon panels for the Alberta Arts Gallery Community 6 x 6 x 6 Show. This eclectic annual exhibit is open to anyone living in the Portland area.

We were staying in a short-term rental around the corner from the gallery when I saw a flyer in the window announcing the open call. Almost all of my art and supplies are still in storage, but I had a little box containing my 6 x 6 panels, so why not take the opportunity to make new connections?

I’m including another artist’s entry here just because. Who isn’t feeling edgy these days, and who doesn’t need a reason to laugh . . .

A New Home

Here’s the reason for the “super busy” mentioned above. We got the keys to our new house on Thursday! The appraiser called it a “midcentury bungalow.” It’s in a peaceful neighborhood just south of the city, and we love it.

My studio will be this room in the basement. It needs work but is three times bigger than my previous space and has so much potential. I’m excited to be at the beginning of a new adventure.
