Rumble’s Reflection, Popping Up, and October’s Giveaway

I put the finishing touches on Rumble’s portrait this week. I felt more joyful and free creating this work than anything I’ve yet done. Tiny, intuitive sparks bypassed my brain and reached my hand throughout the process, keeping stuckness at bay. I know it won’t always be this way, and I’m deeply grateful when I feel guided with ease.

All along, I was so moved by Wendy Chen’s beautiful photo of this rescued, raced pigeon discovering his beauty in a magnifying mirror. It has such an “ugly duckling” feel. (You can see it in my previous post.) It’s projecting to say he’s discovering his true worth after being literally tossed away into a hard life, but that’s what I see in his eyes.

Rumble Prints! Someone has already purchased this piece, but I want to make a limited run of fine giclée prints. I’ve yet to work out the size or price—I’m thinking something like 14 x 18 for $120, but that’s TBD after I talk to the printing guy. Meanwhile, if you’re interested in one of these prints, let me know ASAP, and I’ll put you on the list. (As usual, a portion of proceeds will go to pigeon rescue.) I plan to do just this one printing.

“Are You There Yet?” Closing Reception & Open House

Next Friday, August 23, from 5-8 p.m., I’ll be at the closing reception for the exhibition at Cedars Gallery in San Anselmo. Five participating artists will “pop up” inside the gallery with art. I’ll have these new 6″ x 6″ pigeon pieces, lots of bird blocks, other prints, and a rack of upcycled cashmere sweaters. It’s going to be fun!

October Giveaway

Congrats to Tina K. who won the July giveaway! She chose Glory (“A Little Whimsy Never Hurt Anyone”).

The bird block giveaway was popular, so let’s do it again for October. I assume many of my current blocks will fly to new homes before the drawing. As before, the winner can choose one from those available in the bird block gallery after the drawing. But if there aren’t any, I’ll make one custom for you!

Here’s how to enter:

  1. If you’re getting this post in your email inbox, reply to it and tell me you want to be included.
