Yesterday my art mentor reminded me that mindful, easy, creative play is an appropriate and sufficient way to show up for ourselves and our art when things feel crazy in our lives:

“Just putting our hands in the art. I don’t know how else to say it, but it’s the idea of tangibly being in the materials as a touch point.”

Our house is going on the market tomorrow and the past six weeks have been intense. Because the house has been professionally staged, everywhere I look, there’s a new still life that I can use for practice and presence if I so choose.

Getting practice where I can. This morning, waiting for an appointment with our real estate agent. Trying to stay loose and keep my contour lines more continuous than not. People drinking coffee and talking are prime targets because they stay still for a minute. 😁

I kept today’s Point Richmond sketch simple—a contour (keep the pen on the paper) sketch of a guy having coffee with his friends after a bike ride. I added some color wash with water soluble crayon but I think I like the black and white better.

Warpy-wonky Point Richmond sketch of the day. I sat on my butt on a cold stoop across the street from the Hotel Mac. It’s the first time I’ve sketched outside with people walking by, some stopping to talk to me. In the past I would have been way too shy!
